Chris High interviews me. And, a big fat giveaway.

Maybe it's narcissistic of me to admit this, but as an author I enjoy being interviewed. I'm always surprised at the questions I get asked, and am even more surprised by the answers I give, especially when I'm forced to really think about why I made some of the choices I did.

In an interview with Chris High, I talk about apple scented candles, why damaged people often make the strongest people, and how I wrote CREEP from a lonely place. Did I overshare? Maybe. Click here to read the whole interview.

And if you have time, please check out Chris High's great review of CREEP. Here's a portion of it:
Jennifer Hillier has created with Creep – her debut novel – an almost perfect piece of crime fiction that tears through the all the established barriers. Click to read the rest of the review.

Because it's Friday (yay), because it's January (blah), and because I'm on the home stretch with revisions for FREAK (cry), I am giving away a signed hardcover of CREEP to one random commenter below. All you have to do is tell me you want one.

Maybe I'll even give away two. Or three. We'll see how it goes. Open to anyone in Canada and the U.S.

Happy Friday, guys!

  4. Great interview! I like to have a candle burning while I'm writing too, but I am a sucker for the Clean Cotton scented Yankee Candles!

I would love a copy of your book, but I live in the UK so I will have to buy it. :D

  8. Ooh ooh ooh, (insert Horshack sound raising his hand.) Me too.

  9. I liked the interview, especially your point about the reader being surprised by Ethan because you were too as you wrote him and he revealed his secrets. He is very good at keeping secrets, the sneaky bastard.

And I'm not entering the contest, since, as you know, I'm in the UK. Next time. And congrats on being close to done with revisions, go you!

  10. Hey I want one!
And it's totally cool to like being interviewed! Not narcissistic at all.

  11. Oh, I'll take one of those bad boys. I'm off to read the interview.

  12. I have to say, it was funny reading your interview because you said you didn't know what your characters would do until they told you. I do the same thing. I don't plot at all until I'm more than 2/3 through the book and then it's only a sketchy outline so I can get to the end. It always surprises me what happens.

And I just got one of those scented room things (free) and although it actually stinks too much, it adds a nice atmospheric touch.

Best of luck on the trip to the UK. I'm right there with you.

  15. I'm off to read the interview. Fun, fun, fun! I have my ebook version so I don't want to deprived anyone of a new book!

  16. Bummer, no way to leave a comment there. Good interview! And the nerve of your main character keeping secrets from you...

  17. Off to see what you had to say...

And MEMEMEME!! I'll take one. :)

  18. Headed over now to hear more shocking details...I'm kidding. I'm not shocked anymore.ha

A hardcover would be nice but nothing could be beat my signed arc. And it's not like I'm wearing it out by forcing people to look at it everytime they come over...or reading the inscription out loud to them. That would just be weird.

  19. Excellent interview! (I already have a book)

    Great interview.

  26. Meeeee! I would love an autograph copy! I enjoyed reading the interview! Since I've never been interviewed -per se, I don't know if it's narcissistic or not. I would venture to say, it was, but not in a bad way. If that even makes sense. lol Enjoy your weekend!

  27. I'd love a (free) copy of CREEP! As though my life weren't creepy enough (okay, by choice of course), I'd love to get lost in your story. Congrats on the great interview, I think it would definitely be revealing to have to answer questions on the spur of the moment.

  28. Great interview! I agree with you about broken characters being strong, and very important in a good story. (and they make great villains too)

Hope the final revisions for Freak treat you well. I can't wait until Aug.so I can read it. :) Happy weekend!

  29. I can't help but notice no one has called dibs.

    Dibs!

    Yay, I win!

Also, I love giving interviews too. Which is a pity because I am way too honest. I go off on tangents of stories that I think are fun and don't do a very good job selling whatever I'm supposed to be selling. :)

  30. Great interview and review!! You know I already have Creep, so I'll just pass on good ju-ju to the others to win.

  33. Someone is going to be very happy & very lucky to get a signed copy of your book. I have one of my own so leave me out, but whoever gets that copy will be thrilled! And maybe I should interview you someday!

  34. I want one! haha! I'm looking forward to a day where I can say stupid things and get way off topic in an interview. I love listening to uncut interviews because it just makes me realize how everyone has a little a.d.d.!

  35. ...loved the interview, Jennifer! Honest and giddy. As for the free...yep, sign me up ;)

  37. I WANT ONE! I gave away my ARC (and only copy) in a blog contest when promoting all the awesomeness that is CREEP. I'm very VERY sad not to have a copy currently sitting on my book shelf. :( And with such limited funds in the old bank account, I can't currently afford to get one. waaaaaaaaaahhhhh. Did I guilt you enough? haha lol. No, if I don't win it's all good. Hopefully someone who has not yet gotten to read this book will win so they can shrae in the love. One day when the finances are better, there WILL be a copy of CREEP on my bookshelf (and it's sequel!!!).
